Electrification Pre-Appenticeship
Powered By: Home Building Institute – HBI. Y.i.RE has partnered with HBI to provide students with a Pre-Apprenticeship Curriculum to offer students education in the Electrification field in Construction. The curriculum is approved by the Department of Labor. Students will perform 160 hours of classroom and hands on experience, instructed by a Licensed Instructor, to earn a certificate. Afterwards students will work towards an apprenticeship, by working within the construction trade with an employer for 4 years. RX Electric Inc, will be one of the construction trade partners to provide employment, offering a job towards apprenticeship. Working onsite, students will apply skills taught during the pre-apprenticeship certification, by assisting general contractors and/or journeymen on job sites, with work orders by the company.
Why Electrification – Future Proof Skills That Matter

This program is built for youth (Women and Men) ages 15-19. Especially foster and at-promise youth (aging out), who are ready to learn a real trade, gain hands-on experience and create a clear pathway into paid electrical apprenticeships.
Participants gain industry-recognized pre-apprenticeship training aligned with HBI’s electrical curriculum, safety training and foundational skills employers look for when hiring entry-level electricians.
No prior experience is required. The program is designed to meet students where they are and build confidence, discipline and technical skills from day one.
Y.i.RE partners with licensed contractors, unions and workforce agencies to help graduates transition into paid apprenticeships, entry-level employment, or continued training. This isn’t theory, it’s a pathway.
Y.i.RE combines technical training, mentorship, financial literacy and life-skills support, ensuring students don’t just learn a trade, but are prepared to succeed long-term in the workforce.
Electrician apprentices earn solid pay right from the start. Most entry-level apprentices make roughly $25 – $30 per hour (about $50K – $62K+ per year), often with benefits like healthcare and retirement plans included as part of total compensation. Earnings typically grow as you complete more hours, classroom training and increase your skill level. Some employers, especially utility or union-affiliated programs can pay even higher wages depending on experience.
